Practicum Exam Prep
NCIDQ’s Practice Design Problems (PDPs) help you prepare for the newly formatted practicum section of the exam by simulating the actual testing experience. The new PDP is a complete sample examination that includes all the exercises you will encounter on the actual examination.
NCIDQ’s Practice Design Problems come with:
- Problem booklets and codes for all three parts of the exam
- 18” x 24” vellum drawing sheets
- A booklet of passing and failing examples with our comments (click here to see a sample page)
- Older PDPs come with online examples of a passing and failing solutions
New PDPs will be released after each practicum examination. Practice Design Problems are available to anyone; you do not have to be an approved exam candidate to purchase one.

- How to Study for the Practicum Exam
First, use the printed PDP to simulate an actual exam scenario. Allocate the same amount of time under the same conditions as the exam (no references, cell phones, etc). Give yourself a feel for the timing and the pace of the actual test day.
Second, review the solutions when it’s convenient for you. Review the comments that show you different aspects of the candidate’s solution that rate it a pass or a fail. Compare the solutions to your completed practice problems, and use this information to evaluate yourself on your work and see which areas you might need additional practice in before the test. Remember, the NCIDQ Examination is a practice-based examination; the best preparation is well-rounded, diverse experience.

Purchase the printed problem and solutions booklet directly from NCIDQ via our online store. You may purchase your online solutions for older exams with the sample examination as a money-saving bundle or individually at any time.
When you purchase the online solutions, you choose how many days of access you’d like to have to view the solutions. You may purchase access to the online solutions in 30-, 60- or 90-day periods. You can always buy additional time.
Before you purchase, please note:
- Your online access begins on the date of purchase.
- The online solutions may only be viewed from one computer. If your first log-in is at work, you will not be able to view from your laptop or home computer.
- The online solutions are most effective as the second part of a two-part process. We recommend completing the practice exam before reviewing the solutions.

Multiple-Choice Exam Prep
IDFX & IDPX
New practice materials for IDFX and IDPX are now available exclusive through the Prometric delivery system! Each practice test consists of 50 multiple choice questions in order to best simulate the IDFX and IDPX exams. During the practice tests, you can choose a response or mark a question to return to it later. At the end of the practice test, you receive a score report that provides your results broken out by the content areas of each section. These results help you determine your strengths and weakness in order to best study for the exam. At the end of the exam you also have the opportunity to find out the rationale for test answers you missed on the simulated test. You may only complete the exam once, but may take up to 10 days to finish it.
Section 1 & Section 2
NCIDQ has published a multiple-choice study option: online multiple-choice practice tests. Access them anytime and anywhere there's internet access!
Each practice tests consists of 75 multiple-choice questions reflecting the same percentage of questions in each content area that appear on the actual exam. This online version gives you the freedom to practice on your own time. During the practice test, you can choose a response or mark a question to return to it later. You can even pause the test and complete it at a later time. At the end of the practice test, you receive a score report that provides your results broken out by the content areas of that section. These results help you determine your strengths and weaknesses. The online format allows you to easily revisit any of the questions and answers for additional review. You can only take the test once per order, but you have 90 days to complete the practice test, as well as review your questions and the correct answers.
When you order, you will receive an authorization code unique to you. This authorization code is your access to the practice test.
