The NCIDQ Board of Directors works with the executive director to manage the Council’s affairs, property, funds and policies. The eight-member Board is composed of seven Certificate holders and one public member not affiliated with the design profession, who serves as the voice for the public, which NCIDQ serves.
Members of the Board of Directors are elected by the delegates to serve two-year terms. The President, President-Elect and Past President serve one-year terms. The composition of the Board includes representation from the member boards and other interior designers who have served NCIDQ through committee service.

Mary Jane Grigsby, President

Mary Jane Grigsby is the founder of Adesso Design, Inc., a licensed interior design firm in Asheville, NC and Port Saint Lucie, FL. The firm provides commercial and residential interior design services throughout North Carolina and Florida. She has been a professional interior designer since 1975.
She received her Bachelor’s Degree in biology/pre-med from Duke University, followed by her Masters Degree in interior design at the University of North Carolina – Greensboro. She has been practicing for more than 30 years, both locally and abroad, which has led her to be acknowledged as one of the most sought after designers in the region. Her local, state and national awards, along with magazine cover stories, attest to her ability to provide exceptional design solutions for varied projects and for outstanding contributions to the interior design profession and her community. In 2002, Mary Jane was appointed by Gov. Jeb Bush and then reappointed by Gov. Charlie Christ to serve on the Florida State Board of Architecture and Interior Design, which regulates the two professions.
Mary Jane served as Chair of the Board of Architecture and Interior Design in 2007. She has served as chair of NCIDQ’s Education Task Force and Model Language Task Force. In 2004-2005 she served as Chair of ASID’s College of Fellows and has served on numerous ASID committees, both locally and nationally.

Kim Ciesynski, President-Elect

Kim Ciesynski is the owner and principal designer of Spaces Design & Planning in Reno, Nevada. This full-service design firm specializes in commercial, hospitality and healthcare projects in the western United States. She serves on the Nevada State Board of Architecture, Interior Design and Residential Design, appointed by the governor in 2010. Most recently, she served NCIDQ as the Alternate Delegate from Nevada, Chair of the IDEP Task Force, a member of the Continuing Education Task Force and as an ambassador presenting the Your Journey to Professionalism webinar and program. Kim served on the NCIDQ Board of Directors in 2009-2010 and has served in numerous other capacities for NCIDQ.
Kim is a licensed interior design in Nevada. She graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno with a BS degree in Interior Design and has been practicing design more than 20 years. She believes strongly that NCIDQ should maintain strong relationships with all collateral design organizations on order to bring open communication and transparency to these relationships and to speak with one voice for our design community.

Patty Blaser, Past President

NCIDQ Past President Patty Blaser is a full professor at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, New Jersey. She founded the Interior Design program at the college. From 1985 to 1998, she also ran her own business, Blaser Interior Design Group, Inc., focusing on commercial space planning and interior design.
Blaser has served on NCIDQ committees and task forces focused on establishing educational standards. In 2005, she served on the Interior Design-Related Coursework Task Force; in 2006 she served on the Education Committee; in 2007 she was a member of the Educational Equivalency Task Force. She is a member of the New Jersey Board of Architects Interior Design Examination and Evaluation Committee and was instrumental in getting legislation passed in New Jersey through her involvement in the New Jersey Coalition for Interior Design Legislation, serving as President in 2003-2004.
Blaser attended Brookdale Community College before receiving a bachelor’s degree in interior design & art historyn from Kean University, where she later received a master’s degree in studio art education.

Lovejoy Duryea

Lovejoy Duryea brings to NCIDQ a broad base of experience as practitioner, CIDA site visitor, state board chair and an extensive history of leadership in education both as a professor, a department chair and department dean.
She is a principal at Dorset Design, Inc. located in New York City and Long Island, NY and has served as Professor and Chair of the Interior Design Department at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. She served on the New York State Board of Interior Design from 1998 – 2009 (serving as Chair from 1999 – 2009) and as the delegate and alternate delegate from New York from 2005 – 2009. She has also served as a volunteer to NCIDQ as a member of the Multiple Choice Committee and the Broadly Experienced/Educated Interior Designer Task Force.

Victoria Horobin

Victoria Horobin is a principal at KBH Interior Design located in Toronto, ON from 2000 to present. She currently serves as Director of Marketing at KBH and believes strongly in serving client interests through the design process and in projecting client image and business philosophy through the interior environment, while responding to the critical client needs of function, budget and schedule.
A graduate of Ryerson University School of Interior Design, Victoria is a member of the Board of Governors for ARIDO and has served as delegate from Ontario from 1998 to 2002 and then alternate delegate from 2003 to 2009. She has also served as a volunteer to NCIDQ as a member of the Grading Coordinators Committee, IDEP Task Force, Policies & Procedures Committee, Nominations Committee, Certification Task Force, Definition of Interior Design Task Force and Jury Team Leader Committee.

John Klai

John Klai is the President and a founding partner of Klai Juba Architects, Ltd., located in Las Vegas. Klai and Klai Juba Architects have had the opportunity to work hand-in-hand with interior designers on highly visible properties up and down the Las Vegas strip. He has worked in the design, planning and management capacity for the following projects: the Four Seasons Hotel at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, Indiana Live!, MGM Grand Expansion and Remodel and the Hard Rock Hotels and Casinos at Hollywood and Tampa, Fl.
Klai received a bachelor of architecture degree from North Dakota State University and is an NCARB and NCIDQ Certificate holder. He has spent nearly 10 years on the Nevada State Board of Architecture, Interior Design and Residential Design. Currently he is serving on two committees for the Nevada Board, which are responsible for the rewrite of their Supplemental Exam for Registered Interior Designers (administered to candidates who passed NCIDQ prior to examination in 2000) and for evaluating candidates who have interior design degrees from programs lacking CIDA accreditation. He has also volunteered for NCIDQ as a member of the Route for Architecturally Educated Interior Designers Task Force and as a member of the Practice Analysis Task Force.

Ernest Rhoads

Ernest Rhoads is a facilities planner for the Shared Services Group of The Boeing Company. His previous experience includes working as a project manager for CB Richard Ellis as well as a facilities interior design manager for MultiCare Health Systems, where he was responsible for directing in-house interior design projects for four hospitals and 118 clinic sites. Ernie served as the Chair/Founder of the Interior Design Coalition of Washington State in 2002 and as an advisor until 2010. During that time, he also served as a volunteer for NCIDQ as a Cut-Score Study participant, a member of the Exam Practicum Committee and a grader, with service on the NCIDQ Board of Director as an interim Director in 2008.
He received a BFA from Cornish College of the Arts, as well as an MBA with a management emphasis and an MS in Information Systems Management both from Seattle Pacific University. In addition he has earned the Boeing Leadership Certificate.
Ernest has an ongoing blog at "Healthcare Design Magazine" and his latest publication can be read in "The State of the Interior Design Profession," Fairchild Books, NewYork, NY 2010.

Mike is the Publisher of Interiors & Sources, a 30-year brand that focuses on delivering content, research and inspiration to the commercial interior design industry. His responsibilities include operational management and strategy, new product development, sales training and financial management. The Interiors & Sources product portfolio includes magazines, live events, education and research and web deliverables.
Taking over the brand in 2005, Mike has led Interiors & Sources to exponential market share and revenue growth and has positioned the magazine and brand to be the leader in commercial interior design. From a generation ago in the face-to-face market of live events to currently running the Interiors & Sources brand, Mike has seen the abundant change and evolution of how companies, organizations and professionals market themselves.
